ABOUT
Beverly Acha creates paintings, prints, drawings, and sculptures that playfully explore structure, time, space and the visible and invisible forces that shape our lived experiences. Originally from Miami, Florida, she is currently an artist in residence at The Wassaic Project. Acha holds an MFA from Yale University and a BA from Williams College. She is the recipient of awards and residencies including the Wassaic Project Residency (2017), Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program (2016-17), Salem Art Works Fellowship (2014), Frederick M. Peyser Prize in Painting (2009), Robert Schoelkopf Memorial Travel Grant (2011), Vermont Studio Center Residency (2010), and Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship (2007). Recent exhibitions include Mutualities, a solo show at the Roswell Museum and Art Center, Roswell, NM (2016), Introductions at La MaMa Galleria, New York, NY (2016), No Regrets, LeRoy Neiman Gallery at Columbia University, New York, NY (2016), Museum Starter Kit, El Museo del Barrio, New York, NY (2014), and Over Here, In There, two-person show, Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center, New York, NY (2013). Acha has served as a visiting critic at School of Visual Arts, Rhode Island School of Design, and Williams College where she also held the position of Visiting Lecturer in Studio Art in 2015. She will serve as the 2017-2018 Smelser Vallion Visiting Artist at Oklahoma State University and a Lighthouse Works Fellow in Fall 2017.
